Where they started.
BDE is a locally owned excavation, earthmoving and site development business in Whakatāne with a strong reputation in the district. The directors came to Ake to keep the growth going, and our advisors quickly saw some challenges plenty of owners will recognise:
- Time-poor, and not able to be present with whānau.
- Wanting a deeper understanding of how decisions affect cash flow.
- No set goals, and no written plan to work from.
What we did.
We ran a business planning session with the directors and worked through:
- The 10 Hats organisational chart. Who's wearing which hat now, and the structure and roles the business needs next.
- Delegation. Which responsibilities could move to others in the team.
- Cash flow. Advice to keep future cash flow stable as the business grows.
- Goals. Solid, realistic goals, with strategies to reach them.
What changed.
BDE left with a written business plan: clear direction, the actions needed to reach their goals, and a path to business health and whānau happiness. They went on to delegate responsibilities across the team, freeing up time with whānau, and began pursuing a further opportunity that fits their strategic direction.
